My nanny's daughter has been acting totally weird lately.
She keeps giving me these nasty glares, like I stole her last cookie or something.
Then, she'll blast these "switched-at-birth" stories online in the living room. Seriously, who does that?
My brother, Leo, is fed up with it, and he came to me, complaining, "Sis, does Mindy think you two got switched at the hospital or something?"
"She's been looking at me like she's my long-lost mom, it's creepy."
I laughed. Like, does she think our family's annual physicals didn't include a DNA test? Please.
...
I'm Hannah Lee, the only daughter of the Lee Corporation.
Like most rich kids, my parents are never around, so we have a live-in nanny, Patty, to take care of me and my little brother, Leo.
Patty has a daughter, Mindy, who's about my age.
She's basically grown up with us, eating our food, living in our house.
But her own mom doesn't seem to like her very much.
Our whole family can feel Patty's dislike for her.
I once asked my parents if we should do something about it, you know, get in between their relationship.
Mindy is constantly being ignored and given so many chores. It's sad.
But my parents warned me not to interfere.
And, whenever I tried to talk to Patty about it, she always said, “It’s my family issue.”
So, I stayed out of it after that.
But lately, Mindy has been looking at me differently, doing all these strange things.
First, she keeps asking my brother when my parents are coming back from vacation.
Then she'll shoot me these really hateful looks.
And like Leo said, she's found a new way to bug him, too.
The most annoying thing is when she plays those "switched-at-birth" stories out loud in the living room for everyone to hear.
Leo says, "It's like she's wearing her thoughts on her sleeve.”
I just chuckle, like, what are the odds?
Even if we are about the same age, and her mom treats me better than her own kid...
Wait a second, could I be the one who’s switched at birth?!
I went straight to my study and pulled out all my physical check-up records from the past eighteen years.
Thank god my parents were smart enough to include a DNA test every year. Otherwise, I'd be starting to suspect that I was actually not from the Lee family.
Looking at the clear results on the reports, I relaxed. I decided that Mindy just got too invested in those “switched-at-birth” stories online. So, I brushed it off.
Then, one day at dinner, Mindy asks Leo in a sugary voice.
"Leo, don't you think you and I kinda look alike?"
Leo immediately lost his appetite.
"Mindy, are you nuts? We're not related! I’m with my sister right here!"
Patty coughed a couple times in surprise.
"What are you saying, you dumb girl? The master and madam are not home. The young lady and young master allow us to eat with them. That’s an honor for us. How can you talk to the young master like that? Where is your manner?"
Then she hit Mindy on the head with her chopsticks.
Mindy's eyes instantly filled ...
