Jennifer stepped into her husband's Rolls Royce, only to hear her future daughter-in-law mutter "gold digger" under her breath from the backseat. She pinched her husband's ear.
"While I was away, how did you manage to raise our son into such a lovesick fool?"
Her husband shrugged. "Your man only knows how to make money. Handling this…tea situation…requires the skills of his wife."

Jennifer, a writer, had just returned home after a five-year stay abroad. Before she could even settle in, her son, Ethan, clung to her like a koala.
"Mom, Heather's amazing! She's definitely not after our money."
"She's so driven. Came from a small town, worked so hard, overcame so much to get into Stanford."
"Her parents are getting older, and she has a younger brother."
"Her brother won't be a burden, she's not a freeloader!"
Jennifer's first thought was, "The lady doth protest too much."
She smiled. "As long as she's a good person, it doesn't matter if she has a whole family to support. We have plenty of money. She could have seven brothers and it wouldn't be a problem."

She remembered him crying in front of a homeless person, refusing to leave until she gave them money. She was terrified that this sweet, angelic boy was being played.

Jennifer immediately began investigating Heather's company. Pulling some strings, she managed to land a job there, with a desk right behind Heather's.
Seeing Heather in person, Jennifer had to admit, the girl was beautiful. Bright eyes, rosy lips, delicate features – she projected an air of sweet vulnerability. But a glance at Heather's desk revealed a collection of expensive cosmetics, multiple jars of La Mer, and a designer handbag collection.
Fresh from HR, Jennifer returned to her desk just as a gaggle of young women gathered around Heather, listening to her brag about her wealthy boyfriend.
"Ethan is so good to me, so generous. He told me I could use Chanel perfume as air freshener, flush the toilet with bird's nest soup, use Louis Vuitton as trash bags, and moisturize my feet with Estée Lauder."
Jennifer was speechless. No wonder Ethan's "study expenses" had tripled this past year, with first-quarter bills topping a million dollars. And her idiot husband had actually believed him!
Feeling a pang of betrayal, Jennifer couldn't help but interject, "You know, bird's nest soup isn't supposed to be flushed down the toilet. It depends on whether the toilet can handle it. What kind of toilet do you have, one from a rental?"
The group of girls finally noticed Jennifer, staring at her in stunned silence. Heather, clearly not one to back down,...
