I found a wounded werewolf.
My favorite pastime was napping in his soft fur.
Then, he healed and shifted back to human form, his eyes flashing a fierce warning: "A werewolf only has one mate for life. I already have a wolf I like, so I'll never accept you."
With that, he ran off. I stood there dumbfounded, clueless. What was he talking about? I’d been treating him like a dog. What did that have to do with mating?
…Later, I bought a big Labrador Retriever. As I led my new puppy home, I saw the werewolf squatting by my front door, his face a mask of misery.
"You humans are so fickle," he sobbed. "Get rid of it and keep me. I have more fur, thicker fur, I eat less, and I can even earn money – all for you! …If you don't agree, I'll eat that stupid dog in your hand!"
Part 1
Three months after I found the werewolf, he ran away on a dark and stormy night. Before he left, he gave me a fierce warning: “A werewolf only has one mate for life. I already have a wolf I like, and I will never accept you! Get those dirty thoughts out of your head. I’ll never like you!”
Then he bolted, leaving me standing there dumbfounded, completely lost. What was he even talking about? I’d been treating him like a dog this whole time. What did that have to do with being mates?
Part 2
Finding the werewolf was pure chance. I thought he was a dog at first. It wasn't until the third day that I discovered he could turn into a human. He lounged on my couch cushions, munching on chips and watching TV. When something funny happened, his bushy tail wagged excitedly. At that moment, I can’t tell you how many times I recited the Pledge of Allegiance in my head.
Later, he condescendingly explained the whole werewolf thing to me. Turns out, they're a naturally evolved species.
"So, can you eat dog food?" I asked, pinching his ear.
“Hey, stop that!” His face flushed, practically steaming, as he backed away. He answered seriously, "I eat meat. I don't eat dog food. I'm not some lowly species like a dog that wags its tail and begs humans for scraps."
Me: "..."
He was going to be high-maintenance.
Part 3
The werewolf’s departure was completely out of the blue. I thought about it for a long time but couldn’t figure it out, so I gave up. Life went back to normal.
Until two weeks later. I had a meeting with a potential client at a coffee shop, so I took my laptop and headed over. While we were chatting, I happened to glance across the room and saw the werewolf. He was in his human form – tall, muscular, dressed in a sharp suit, with cold, indifferent eyes. He leaned against the railing, looking down at everyone with an impatient expression.
“Ms. Evans, do you know Mr. Grey?” the client asked, noticing me staring. He sounded hopeful. “Mr. Grey is a major shareholder in Rong An Corp. I chose this place specifically because he’s a regular here. Perhaps you could introduce me?”
I froze for a moment, then realized he was talking about the werewolf.
I shook my head. “No, I don’t know him. I just though...
