I was the last disciple of the Exorcism Academy and the fake heiress of the Dent family.
The real one, Rebecca Dent's mother, Morgan Dent, looked at me with disdain.
"You can stay, but remember, Rebecca comes first," Morgan said, her voice dripping with condescension.
Seeing the dark energy surrounding Rebecca, I didn't need a second invitation to leave.
Please, don't let that lousy luck rub off on me.
Later, I gained quite a reputation for my astrology and fortune-telling skills. Suddenly, they were on their knees, begging for my help.
Chapter 1
Today marked my fifth year at the Exorcism Academy, and I finally passed my design project.
I was buzzing with excitement as I hopped into a cab, eager to tell my parents that my studies weren't a waste. I could finally start making money through fortune-telling!
But as soon as I stepped through the door, I was hit with an unexpected scene. Morgan was cradling a girl in her arms, tears streaming down her face. This girl looked just like my dad, Logan Dent.
So, this was their real daughter, and I was just the imposter.
Morgan's gaze was filled with venom as if I were the reason she lost her biological child.
"Emilia, I know your real parents are on the brink of bankruptcy. You can stay, but remember, Rebecca comes first."
I instinctively took a step back, distancing myself from Rebecca.
I could see the dark energy swirling around her; even her lips seemed shrouded in an ominous aura. It was clear that anyone who got too close to her would be inviting disaster.
As I watched the dark energy begin to ripple toward Logan and Morgan, I quickly shook my head. "No need for that. I'll leave right now."
Seriously, I didn't want any of that bad luck following me.
Logan glared at me as I packed my things. "If you step out that door, you're done with us for good. What you've learned these past few years is just nonsense. How do you expect to survive in the real world? If you apologize to Rebecca, I might be able to get you a cleaning job at the company."
I couldn't help but scoff. I thought, Why should I apologize when I haven't done anything wrong?
I knew they weren't upset about me; they just couldn't stand that their puppet had finally cut the strings.
Ignoring Logan, I turned on my heel and left.
But as soon as I stepped outside, it hit me—I only had a few hundred bucks from my teacher.
As a student at the Exorcism Academy, I wasn't allowed to make money until I graduated.
Logan and Morgan had been furious when I scored so well on the SATs and chose to attend such a peculiar school.
For the past five years, they treated me like I didn't exist, severing all ties and support.
I calculated my options and decided to head to my biological parents.
Chapter 2
The Kent family might not be as affluent as the Dent family, but they were comfortable—until recently, when their business hit a rough patch, and they were on the verge of bankruptcy.
As I approached the Kent Villa, I felt a twinge of confusion. A family facing fin...
